The band music for next year is ready to go. If you have access to an instrument over the summer, or would just like to have your music in advance, please see me before the school year is finished.

Wednesday, 6 June 2018

Congratulations to all those who participated in the Spring Symphony last night! I think we did a great job! I'm so proud of all of you! Let's do it again next year!

I'd like to say an extra thank you to the fabulous tech team, stage crew, spot light operators, mic movers, stair helper, curtain puller, runners and anyone else who helped out back stage. The show couldn't have been done with out you, and I know it's a demanding event. You rose to the challenge beautifully.

A representative from Cosmo Music will come to the school on
Thursday, June 28th
to pick up any rentals that need to be returned.

If you are returning your rental for the summer, please make sure it is in my room before you leave school on Wednesday, June 27th. If you are keeping your instrument for the summer, please take it home. We don't want Cosmo to take an instrument by mistake.

Due to Spring Symphony auditions, the music room will be unavailable at lunch recess for the next two weeks. Extra help will still be available before school, after school and at morning recess.

Band practice will continue to take place on day 5's at lunch.

3rd annual
Spring Symphony

date has been changed to June 5th, so (re-)mark your calendars!

Thursday, 29 March 2018

It seems that even though Spring Symphony is the pinnacle of my musical year, this is of little importance to the government... Due to the election, the date for Spring Symphony  will have to change (as voting will be taking place in our gym). I hope you wrote it down in pencil! The date at this point in time is TBD. I'll announce the new date as soon as I know it. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Auditions will take place the week of April 23rd.

3rd annual
Spring Symphony

is coming!

If you're in grades four through eight, and have a musical talent that you want to share, start working on your two minute audition.

Auditions will take place in April.

The Spring Symphony is set to take place on June 6th, so mark your calendars!

The sign up sheet for the Bakersfield Band is now available in my room. Without any announcements, it is already almost full. A few instruments already have a waiting list! I'm so happy that my students are so excited to join - I love band, and your enthusiasm tells me that many of you love it too!

The sign up sheet is open first for students who were in the band last year. If there are still spots available, I will open it up to grade 8's and work my way down to grade 5's.

As mentioned in several posts already, the band music has been ready for quite some time (since last June), so if you'd like a copy, please see me.

Happy Holidays! See you in January for instruments!

I would like to order the mouthpieces, reeds and drum sticks this week to ensure that they are here in time for the start of instruments in January. If you are planning on ordering through the school, please make sure your order is placed as soon as possible.

Here is some information I received from Cosmo Music for all students who are renting instruments from them.

Cosmo's website will start to provide the January to June rate on December 21, 2017, so please do not visit the website to order your instrument until that date or after. This way, you will be provided with the correct rental rate.

Once you are on the website you should choose "FOR SCHOOL YEAR" and not "SEMESTER". If you choose semester, you will not get the instrument until February.

I hope that clears so things up! Only 38 days until instruments! (But who's counting?)

For those students in grade 7 and 8, as well as any student who is considering joining the band in the lower grades, I have started recording and uploading parts for our band songs for this year. Please find them in the "band music" tab of the blog.

If anyone is interested in joining the Area West Elementary Enrichment Band, let me know!

Tuesday, 17 October 2017

Hopefully by the end of October all classes will be finished with their first unit in music. Once everyone has had their written test, we will be moving on to our first dance unit.

I am in the process of making groups for each class for our upcoming dance assignment. I welcome any and all student input when I'm making the groups. Please see me before or after school if you'd like to help.

Calling all trumpet players!

We are starting to think about our Remembrance Day assembly, and would love to have a student play the traditional Last Post. So, if you can hit the high G in open position (as in the G above the staff), and are interested in performing solo, come and see me!

In an effort to keep up with the times, I'm trying something new.... (well, new to me, anyway...). If you're a student and you're interested in finding out what I'm doing, download the free app "Aurasma", and follow me (TPF). When you have a spare moment in my class (as in when you're done all your work), ask for my permission to use your device and check it out... You might want to bring headphones.

Don't worry if you don't have a device... once I have enough to show you, I'll show it to the classes. This is just for those who want an early sneak peek!

I've been having a hard time trying to figure this one out! A big thanks to Mrs. Turco (and her husband!) for helping me get it off the ground!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great summer! My summer was wonderful, but I'm glad to be back!

I was very happy with how the blog worked last year, so I would like to continue it this year. On my blog you will be able to find:
     - updates on what's going on in my room (whether we're working on music or dance)
     - information on upcoming projects and tests
     - information on Spring Symphony (when the time comes)
     - sound clips of music that we will be playing in class (when the time comes)
     - a guideline of how much you should have practiced each week, organized by grade (again, when the time comes)
     - my extra help schedule/room availability

I've organized it by grade groups, so please be sure to check out the appropriate page for you or your child. Be sure to check back often, as I update my blog regularly.

Have a great year!

Mrs. Frankfort
